Group and announcement emails are send using cron, So it may possible after changing that value cron was reset and start sending emails. I have seen this behavior before with some of my users.

You will need to save and display that value as well. Please see that link. There are more 2 blocks of code there you need to add.

do you know how to write js code? If yes you can use fep_form_submit_done trigger to clear your form.
